Scientific Proof

I have not blogged much – wrist hurts and typing one handed at work all day makes me REALLY not want to come home and do the same.

But…tonight I watched a scientific show about the Bible.  It was NOVA but I can’t remember the name…..”Hidden…….Bible” that’s all I can remember.

They used archeological finds to see if the Kingdom of David & Solomon existed and how the belief in ONE God became central for …

Jews – Christians – Muslims

With Egyptian hieroglyphics that proved dates in the Bible for Solomon and then tiny one inch scrolls made of silver found in a tomb in Jerusalem that had the Lord’s Blessing from the Book of Numbers pre-dating The Dead Sea Scrolls by 400 years they used these findings to “concede” that the Bible was NOT fiction.

24 The Lord bless thee, and keep thee:

25 The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:

26 The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Numbers 6:24-26

With excavations in Jerusalem they found small figurines of other Gods.  They even found a burial stone asking for a blessing from God and another female god – together.  Many digs contained statues of other gods dating up to the Babylon Empire’s Invasion. But then something changed.

History records  that the Israelites were taken captive and marched to Babylon, leaving Jerusalem in ruin.  The scientists on the show said that there were scribes who kept scrolls from Jerusalem which kept the testimony of their history in tact. They stated that it was during this captivity that the Torah (first five books of the Bible) were organized and put together. I’m not sure if that is true or not.

According to the Bible – when the exiles returned to Jerusalem the prophet Ezra read from the scrolls and the people of Israel declared to follow the One True God.

According to their scientific research – there have not been artifacts for other gods in the digs dating after the exile’s return to Jerusalem.  It was the Babylonian dominion that concreted  Israel’s belief in God.

I knew the Biblical history but it was fascinating to hear it from a different perspective. I came away thinking….

Isn’t that Just like God to use our

Greatest Defeat

Crushing Captivity

Deepest Despair

Exile

To bring us home To His arms, To His heart, To His love.
